In unregulated markets Cable TV business operate in a different model unlike the regulated one. We understand the different business models as we have the experience of working in regulated and unregulated cable markets.
Indian cable TV market has been an excellent example for unregulated market until the recent digitization mandate, which has changed the way the cable operators do their business.
Until this regulation the cable operators were the last mile operators for the Multi-system operators (MSO), which meant the cable operator owned the subscriber and not the MSO. In such a scenario, the cable operator becomes the subscriber for MSO. Cable operators buy programming packages and set top boxes from the MSO using which they would receive the signal and distribute the same to the end subscribers through cable. Subscriber would pay to the cable operator and in turn the cable operator pays to the MSO.
